Reading

Research shows that a love of reading gives children an advantage in all areas of their learning; and it's fun too! For these reasons, it is important that pupils, parents and teachers work together to ensure children have the time, space and motivation to read at home.

Things you can do:

Check that your child is taking home an age appropriate book from school to read at home;

Read with your child on Bug Club and practise answering comprehension questions;

Set aside time, for example, just before bedtime, for your child to read;

Check that your child's red reading record book is being completed;

Practise reading the common exception words for Y2 then Y3/Y4;

If your Year 3 child has siblings, get him/her to read to them;

Talk to Miss O'Neill or Mrs Tanguy if you have any questions or concerns about your child's reading habits.
