In Foundation Stage 1 the children are encouraged to become independent learners and critical thinkers, therefore our curriculum is child-led. This means we will explore and develop children’s own thoughts and interests. Lastly, we will observe the characteristics of the children’s learning, for instance whether a child shows curiosity about objects, events and people.
The ways in which the children in Foundation Stage 1 engage with other people, including their peers and the learning environment underpin the learning and development across all areas of learning and support the children to remain an effective and motivated learner. We hope to encourage the children in the setting to play and explore, be an active learner and create and think critically, through the seven areas of learning which include:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
In Foundation Stage 1 we focus on the Prime areas of learning which are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language.
During the Summer Term we will be focusing on supporting and extending the older children to prepare for their transition to F2. Alongside continuing to help the children who have more recently started nursery to make friends and settle to the new routines.
We feel that it is vital that the children quickly learn how to express themselves and be able to communicate effectively with each other. Therefore, our curriculum will be focusing on learning new, useful words and speaking in full sentence
Each week the activities, enhancements and resources will be based on a specific theme to encourage the children to practise their newly acquired vocabulary. This term the stories we’re focusing on are:
The Washing Line, Jasper’s Beanstalk, The Queen’s Hat, The Hungry Caterpillar and We all go travelling by.
