In the Spring term, Year 6 will be learning about decimals, percentages and algebra.  Throughout school, we use the concrete, representational and abstract approach to learning, in order to deepen understanding.  Therefore, we begin by showing the children how to use apparatus, before moving on to visual representations (drawings) and then finally teach children to express this using numerals and calculations.

They will also be learning about measurement (converting units and perimeter, area and volume) and ratio.

Each week during lessons, children will be given tasks to develop fluency and then be expected to apply these to different problems and explain their reasoning using mathematical vocabulary.
