Sports Premium

The current government is spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016. They are allocating this extra funding directly to schools.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. We will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sporting provision alongside curriculum details. This will ensure that parents/carers and others are made fully aware of the PE and sporting provision at Netherthorpe Primary School.

How much have we been allocated?

£8,602

How will we be spending the Sports Premium funding?
We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all and encourage collaboration and partnership working to make the best use of resources and enhance PE and sport provision in order to raise participation and achievement for all pupils.

Our rationale for the use of Sports Premium funding are that it must be used so that:

- all children benefit regardless of sporting ability
- children are given the opportunity to compete in tournaments with other schools
- staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development
- some activities may be subsidised so that pupils do not miss out due to financial constraints eg swimming
- we make use of collaborative and partnership working

With the above rationale in mind, and following the guidelines for how to spend this money, our initial plans for the use of the Sports Premium funding include:

continued membership of Forge School Partnership which costs £3040.

- subsidising offsite swimming in order to ensure that all Key Stage two children learn to swim before they leave Netherthorpe Primary School at a cost of £2053

The remaining £3509 will be spent on the following areas:

- investment in the professional development of staff at our school so they are best equipped to teach high quality Physical Education and school sport for years to come. This will includes the weekly use of a specialist coach working alongside school staff to share best practice.

- increasing the amount of competitive sport in which our children participate - increasing pupils’ participation in inter school competitions with the other schools .

- Purchasing equipment to offer access to new sports and physical activities as relevant.

How did we spend the previous years allocated money and how did this impact on PE/sport participation and the attainment of our pupils?

- membership of Forge School Partnership.

- offsite swimming.

- investment in the professional development of staff.

- weekly use of a specialist coach working alongside school staff to share best practice.

- inter school competitions with other schools .

- Purchasing equipment to offer access to new sports and physical activities as relevant.
